Meet the Loveable Sphynx Cat

Sphynx cats boast hairless bodies, wide eyes, and bat-like ears. They’re certainly unique pets! Learn more about this fascinating cat breed below from a pet clinic in Washington DC.

History of the Sphynx

There are records of hairless cats in the Americas from the early 1900s, but today’s modern Sphynx cat originated in 1966 in Toronto, Canada. There, a pair of domestic shorthair cats produced a hairless litter because of a random gene mutation. The Sphynx was born, and has been spreading ever since!

Sphynx Personality

Sphynx cats are friendly, inquisitive, intelligent animals with high metabolisms. This means that they are high-energy pets who love to play, run, jump, and climb. In general, they make good pets for just about any family, including one with children.

How to Care for a Sphynx

Sphynx cat care is largely the same as caring for other cats. They will need extra bathing to get rid of body oil that isn’t soaked up by fur, and they must be protected from prolonged sun exposure since they can easily get sunburnt. Otherwise, they’re like any other cat!
