Wildfire Preparedness

Planning: Assess your fire risk. Is your home on a hill? Are you near highly flammable vegetation? If your answer is yes, your fire risk is greater than average. Here are a few more planning tips that you can do to prevent the threat of wildland fires:

  • Have a ladder available that can reach the roof.

  • Keep items on hand that can be used as fire tools (e.g., rake, ax, bucket, shovel).

  • Install, test monthly, and replace batteries annually a smoke detector on each level of their home and in every bedroom.

  • Install half-inch mesh screens beneath porches, decks, floor areas and the home itself.

  • Clear areas around propane tanks and barbecues.

  • Store gasoline, oily rags, and other flammable materials in approved safety cans.

  • Have readily available a garden hose long enough to reach any area of the home and other structures.
